Antonio Cerilles (born October 7) is the current Governor of Zamboanga del Sur. He assumed office on June 30, 2010. He previously served as the representative of the second district of Zamboanga del Sur. During 1998–2001 he worked as the Secretary of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) under President Joseph Estrada.
In 1968, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from University of Santo Tomas. He received his Bachelor of Laws degree from University of the East in 1972. He also has two masters degree – one in Business Administration – Major in Economics from Washington International University, in Washington DC and another in Urban Planning and Regional Planning from the University of the Philippines, Diliman.
The Civil Service Commission presented him with the Presidential Lingkod Bayan award – this award is conferred to an individual or group of individuals for exceptional or extraordinary contributions resulting from an idea or performance that had nationwide impact on public interest, security, and patrimony.
Zamboanga del Sur achieved another milestone when Governor Antonio Cerilles was awarded by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award as Outstanding Government Worker in the region.
The Civil Service Commission (CSC) in Region- IX culminated the observance of this year’s 118th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary with its Honor Awards Program (HAP) recognizing seven outstanding government workers and agencies from Zamboanga Peninsula held last September 5, 2018 at Royce Convention Center, Grand Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City.

In the formal program, through an audio visual presentation,
Gov. Cerilles highlighted his 7-point agenda which has improved the quality of
life of the Zambosurians.
Some of the significant achievements and accomplishments of
Governor Cerilles which created a big impact to the people of Zamboanga del Sur
are the following:
The province of Zamboanga del Sur was declared as one of the Top 10 Most Competitive Provinces in the entire country.
The construction and concreting of roads in the entire province were made possible thru the initiative of Governor Cerilles and in partnership with other agencies.

2. Social Services
Established the Zamboanga del Sur Sports Academy, the only
sports academy in the entire country that is being run by a provincial
Consistent Regional Winner in the Zamboanga Peninsula
Athletic Association Meet (2014-2017)
Established the Comprehensive Reading Program for all
schools in the entire province to improve literacy and academic performance of
Re-engineered the scouting program of the province
increasing its registered members from 3,000 to 86,000 Boy Scouts, which made
BSP Zamboanga del Sur-Pagadian City Council as Hall of Famer for being the
number one in Membership in the entire country. The council garnered three out
of four major national awards; 1st Place Boy Scout Membership, 1st Place Boy
Scout Training and 1st Place Boy Scout Advancement.
Initiated a computerization program called Electronic Real
Property Taxation (eRPTax) that systematizes all the transactions at the
assessor’s and treasurer’s offices province-wide in a user-friendly relational
database, thus, improving the transparency , eradicating corruption and
increasing the revenue collection and efficiency on real property taxation from
4 Million to 60 Million pesos per year.
Created Disaster Risk Management Office with complete
disaster equipment for disaster response
Implemented the Gahung-Gahung Organic Cassava Farming
Livelihood Program with almost 10,000 farmer-beneficiaries in the province
Awarded the “Excellence in Agriculture Leadership Award”
by the Association of Agriculture Technologists in Southeast Asia in 2015

2017 National Rice Achievers Awardee
Established the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center, the only
LGU-run tertiary hospital in the country ran by a Provincial Government which
has a 350-bed capacity with complete modern medical, surgical and laboratory
facilities and equipment.
Completed the establishment of a state of the art Medical
Arts Building and expanded the Philhealth Ward and Private room accommodation
Rolled-out marine protection program that had addressed
the problems of sea piracy, illegal fishing, and denudation of mangrove
Ordered the closure of all illegal mining activities in
the Province one of which is in Sitio Balabag, Depore, Bayog which address the
degradation of environment. The toxic chemicals that run through the rivers and
into the sea polluting the fishery products was no longer prevalent. The
Dumanquillas Bay is no longer a high red tide area, thus, sea product became
edible to eat.
Stopped all illegal-quarrying activities in the Province
and implemented temporary desiltation program to prevent scouring of rivers and
calamities, the reason why there was zero casualty in the province during the
typhoon Vinta in December 2017.
Increased the revenue collection of the provincial
government from 4 Million to almost Forty Million Pesos (Php 40,000,000.00) due
to the temporary desiltation program.
Awarded the Gawad Kalasag Award for Excellence in Disaster
Risk Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance for the Best
Provincial DRRMC Category by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and
Management Council IX.
Established the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Government
College, the only tertiary educational institution run by the Provincial
Government that complimented the J.H. Cerilles State College. Currently the
ZDSPGC offers Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Bachel0r in Technical teacher
Education, Bachelor of Science in Information Systems, Bachelor of Science in
Criminology, and Bachelor of Physical Education.
Conceptualized the offering of the Masteral Program on
Governance & Development for elected officials and government employees of
the province in 2013 in consortium with the Ateneo de Zamboanga University-Zamboanga
City. The program which is now on its second batch has produced 28 graduates to

Continued the all-out war against illegal drugs which
started as early as 2010
The Province of Zamboanga del Sur was declared Peaceful
and Ready for Further Development by the DILG, AFP and PNP in 2015.
Truly, the leadership of Governor Antonio H. Cerilles has
greatly improved the quality of life of the people of Zamboanga del Sur which
made him conferred the said prestigious accolade.
Along with the Governor is his beloved wife Congw. Aurora E. Cerilles, his son Vice Gov. Ace William E. Cerilles and Board Member Marlyn Revelo who joined him in receiving the award.

Zamboanga del Sur was awarded as 2017 Rice Achievers Award and one of the Top 5 Rice Producer of the 81 provinces in the country. The province is a second time recipient of the awards and as Outstanding Province
Governor Antonio H. Cerilles expressed his gratitude to the farmers of the province for their support and cooperation in adopting the implementation of agricultural program following new technology of farming that leads the awards.
As a result of the initiative of Zamboanga del Sur government to encourage the people to be engaged in organic farming, it has been two successive years that the province was hailed as the regional corn achiever awardee and recognized as an outstanding province during the 2016 National Quality Corn Achievers Awards (NQCAA).
