ZamboSur PLGU Promotes Reading Comprehension Program

The Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Sur, through the leadership of Governor Antonio H. Cerilles, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), and OneHope Philippines gave books to different schools in Zamboanga del Sur.

In the modern world where everything can be learned through technology, there are still those who have difficulty reading. If a child learns how to read, then he can read to learn more things. But what will happen to a child full of potential but doesn’t know how to read?

That is why the Province of Zamboanga del Sur is lucky to have a leader like Governor Antonio H. Cerilles who recognizes the importance of education and is concerned about the well-being of the children in his province. He implemented the Seven (7) Point Agenda, which aims to provide for the needs of the constituents of Zamboanga del Sur.

The governor started the Reading Comprehension Program, and partnered with the Department of Education (DepED), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and JCI Senate Philippines, Inc.-Zamboanga del Sur chapter. This is to address the reading capacity problem of the pupils in elementary level.

Early last year, the Province partnered with OneHope Philippines, a non government organization, in giving books and other reading materials which complements to the Reading Comprehension Program of the province.

Thus, the provincial government, through the initiative of Governor Antonio H. Cerilles, DepEd and the office 2nd Dist. Rep. Hon. Aurora Enerio-Cerilles, simultaneously conducted Book Giving Ceremony as part of the Reading Comprehension Program and in line with the 7 point agenda of the governor.

“We are giving books to your sons and daughters to help them be proficient in reading, and for them to become professionals,” according to Governor Antonio H. Cerilles.

“I could say that our province is one of the provinces in the Philippines that has a lot of professionals because for us Education is always number 1,” said Congw. Aurora Enerio-Cerilles.

4th Quarter NSED & World Tsunami Awareness Day Held in Zamboanga del Sur

Follow the Boy Scout Motto “Laging Handa” in order to ensure the safety of everybody during and after a calamity– Governor Cerilles

Last November 5, 2018, the 4th Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill and World Tsunami Awareness Day was successfully held in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur as the National Ceremonial Venue.

The said drill was participated by government and private agencies, AFP, PNP, EOD, Philippine Coast Guard, different Hospitals in the city, ZAMSURECO-1, PCWD, coastal barangays and schools of Pagadian, NGOs, Telecommunication Groups and Companies, WEMRIC, Philippine Red Cross, DILG, Bureau of Fire Protection, Department of Education, Department of Science and Technology, Office of the Civil Defense, Department of Social Welfare and Development Office, PHIVOLCS, NDRRMC, Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Sur, CDRRMO and LGU-Pagadian headed by Mayor Romeo “Tata” Pulmones as the host.

The NSED was started by an introduction of Pagadian City and its history of earthquake and tsunami. They also recall the deadliest tsunami struck in the city way back August 17, 1976. The expectators witnessed the students, teachers and residents of the coastal barangays in their execution of the BEEP or Building Emergency Evacuation Plan, Tsunami Drill to the evacuation center and other preparations that we need to do in times of calamities.

The activity was attended by DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña, Undersecretary Renato Solidum, Jr. of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaption-DOST and the Officer In-Charge of PHIVOLCS, Undersecretary Bernardo Florece, Jr. the USEC for Peace and Order in the Department of Interior and Local Government, Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad, Administrator of OCD and Executive Director of NDRRMC, DSWD-IX Regional Director Atty. Araceli Solamillo, OCD-IX Regional Director Manuel Luis Ochotorena and Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Governor Antonio Cerilles.

In his message, Governor Cerilles emphasized that those drills are helpful to everybody especially to the building administrators and their disaster action groups to design a specific response plan for earthquakes, to the building occupants to learn proper action and response during earthquakes and it will also teach the residents near the coastal areas on what to do when there is a threat of Tsunami. He also encouraged all the Pagadianons and Zambosurians to follow the Boy Scout motto “Laging Handa” in order to ensure the safety of everybody during and after a calamity.

2,500 Scouts Join ZamboSur’s 8th Simultaneous Municipal Camporal 

‘Love of God, Country and Fellowmen’ depicts the fundamental Laws of Scouting as we do the Scout Sign  says Gov. Cerilles

A total of 2,500 scouts from elementary and secondary public schools in all municipalities all over the province joined the 8th Simultaneous Municipal Camporal of Zamboanga del Sur – Pagadian City Boy Scout Council held last  October 26-28, 2018.

About 5,000 Scout Leaders, Adult and Committee Scouts gathered in every municipalities which facilitated the camp activities had helped a lot to make the said scouting event a success.

Zamboanga del Sur-Pagadian City Boy Scout Council Executive Eriberto Sumalinog disclosed that DepEd Division which spearheaded the event in coordination and partnership with the local scout councils, local officials and parents had work hand in hand in making the event fruitful and productive especially to the young scouters.

He said it’s been 8 years since the Simultaneous Municipal Camporal initiated in this council under his leadership which is the first in the country and now adopted by several provinces’ because of the good impact of the program which promotes values formation in students. The activities in this program are set and scheduled only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to avoid conflict of classes on weekdays.

The program which is the brainchild of the forefather of our local scout council past Council Chair Governor Antonio H. Cerilles which made Zamboanga del Sur-Pagadian City Boy Scout Council as an outstanding and best performing council in the entire country.

As of now, the newly elected Council Chairman of Zamboanga del Sur-Pagadian City Boy Scout Council is no other than Pagadian City Mayor Romeo P. Pulmones who replaces Gov. Cerilles.

Governor Cerilles is the concurrent honorary council chair and council advisor of the local council.

In his untiring support to the scouting movement, he joined the conduct of the 8th Simultaneous Municipal Camporal of the local council and visited all the respective Camporal sites in all municipalities all over Zamboanga del Sur to which he continually emphasized the significance of Scouting in nation building.

Meanwhile, the re-engineered scouting program of the province under the leadership of Governor Cerilles has greatly increased its registered members from 3,000 to 86,000 Boy Scouts, which made BSP Zamboanga del Sur-Pagadian City Council as Hall of Famer for being the number one in Membership in the entire country. And garnered 3 out of national awards namely 1st Place Scout Advancement, 1st Place Scout Training and 1st Place Scout Advancement making the council now as one of the model council in the entire Philippines.
